- Detective Arlette and Inspector Pippen are called to investigate the theft of Hurricane, a valuable stud quarter horse, from Lord Stanton Burroughs. Uninvitedly, Arlette also has dinner with flatmate Fiona and her boyfriend Nigel, whom she doesn't totally seem to have fallen for. A tip from co-owners "One Ball Bill" and "Johnny Red" of The Sticky Wicket Inn, a Scottish and American ex-pat pub, provides Arlette and Pippen with a motive: selling the valuable racehorse's semen. Initially, Nick Coombes, the horse owner's stableman, becomes the primary suspect when Arlette becomes aware that he's been researching horse insemination. Coombes explains his interest in insemination with a desire to produce a colt for his daughter from his old mare. The actual thieves hire a trio to handle the semen collection. The trio in turn hire Charlotte, a professional woman, that will do anything, from a newsprint advert, to retrieve the horse's semen, but the horse unexpectedly dies after she lifts up her blouse to arouse it. Arlette and Pippen then arrange for the pub owners to broker the purchase of the horse's semen from the thieves and Superintendent Johnson wants the duo to dig deeper. Arlette and Pippen are surprised to encounter their informant Rudy, who comes forward with information on the stolen horse, revealing that his brother Fishy, the hired semen collector, was in trouble, and that the horse had passed. When Fishy's boss Yellow, comes to collect the "Gold"/semen, Fishy and the boys lie about having it, which leads them to collect Carl's, an old barn horse, semen. When Arlette and Pippen catch up with Fishy, he explains how he became involved and indebted to Yellow. One Ball Bill and Johnny Red arrange to meet with Yellow, then set up a sting with a German buyer, who is actually Rudy, in disguise. However, before they meet, Fishy encounters Charlotte's boyfriend, Bruno, who expects payment for previous services rendered. When Fishy refuses to pay on principle, Bruno unwittingly ends up with the collected horse semen as payment. The sting is nearly botched by Rudy, but Yellow eventually takes the money and is swarmed by police. Pippen then receives a call that Lord Burroughs is being sold yet another canister of Hurricane's semen. It turns out to be Bruno with Carl's semen, and when Bruno's arrested, Coombe's ends up with Carl's semen for inseminating his mare. Rudy thanks Eddie for helping Fishy and reminisces that this was like old times. Fishy reveals that the semen used to sting Yellow, was his and the lads and Eddie manages to help develop Fiona's fondness and appreciation for Nigel, which impresses Fiona.
