Although he played Wilton Knight in the pilot, Knight of the Phoenix: Part 1 (1982) and Knight of the Phoenix: Part 2 (1982), this is the only episode in the series to not feature Richard Basehart. He can be heard in all subsequent episodes, as the Narrator's voice in the opening title sequence.
In this episode, Michael is seen playing a computer game on one of KITT's monitors, and later sitting with his hands arched front of him. The directors and producers deliberately included a number of similar examples (reading a book, etc.) in early episodes, to highlight to new viewers that KITT could drive himself.
This is the first appearance of Patricia McPherson as Dr. Bonnie Barstow. She just appears with no special introduction as if she has always been part of the team. It's also the first appearance of the Knight Industries semi, though here the trailer is plain white instead of the familiar black with gold stripe and Knight logo that it acquires in Hearts of Stone (1983)
There is no narration over the opening sequence, just instrumentals.
The car the lieutenant was driving is a Chevrolet Nova. The fact that it "won't go" is an inside joke. The Nova failed to sell in the Spanish-speaking market because the model name roughly translates to "doesn't go". This is despite the fact that Chevrolet contracted with Toyota to provide an engine small enough to fit under its hood--several of which were known to have run for over 300k miles.
