KITT's turbo-boosted jump across the ravine when KITT is self-driving was recycled footage from the earlier episode The Topaz Connection (1983).
This episode takes its title from the song of the same name, which song was the theme to the James Bond film The Spy Who Loved Me (1977). At various times, such as the opening infiltration of the electronics facility, composer Don Peake's score is reminiscent of the Bond theme.
The second time the song "Get Closer" has been used in a Knight Rider episode.
In the background of Elliot's office are several video game consoles: Jungle Hunt (Taito), Alpine Ski, and Q * Bert. There are also posters of Joe King Carrasco & The Crowns and The Fixx.
In the original script, Elliot Stevens is described as "a hip, curly haired, electronic wunderkind... Attired in jeans, open shirt, and corduroy sport jacket, Stevens is the embodiment of the youthful entrepreneurs who have led the surge in high tech growth." Julian was envisioned as "pushing thirty years of age... (he) has the harried look of a man who has begun to lose control of his life."
