This was the first episode of Knots Landing (1979) to be broadcast after Conundrum (1991), the series finale of Dallas (1978), on May 3, 1991. Ted Shackelford and Joan Van Ark appeared in that episode, playing versions of Gary and Valene from an alternate reality in which J.R. (Larry Hagman) was never born. In this alternate reality, Gary and Valene meet for the first time when they are middle aged and arrange to have dinner with the suggestion being that the two of them will eventually end up together.
Following the conclusion of Dallas (1978), Knots Landing (1979) became the longest running American primetime scripted series with this episode and retained that status until its final episode on May 13, 1993. It was the last remaining such series to have premiered in the 1970s. It was succeeded by Cheers (1982), which held that distinction for only a week before it ended on May 20, 1993.
