While "Good to the Last Drop" is undoubtedly the most infamous episode of the series, "Justice Swerved" is often cited as the best, largely due to the justifiably celebrated twist ending, which broke tradition with the accustomed tone and style of the series. While every other installment of the eight-season run paints the viewer strictly as observer, the final, bone-chilling fade of this episode makes the audience privy to vital information that only Sifuentes (Jimmy Smits) witnesses, in effect forcing us into horrified silence with him. Inexplicably, the writing of "Justice Swerved" was bypassed by NBC for Emmy consideration in favor of another season four episode.
