Arnie Becker : I'd like to help, but I got this TV thing here. Why don't you talk to Ann Kelsey?

Cara Jean 'C.J.' Lamb : Arnie, this woman needs a killer attorney. She needs you.

Arnie Becker : C.J., I am flattered, but my plate is pretty full right now.

Cara Jean 'C.J.' Lamb : It is not your run-of-the-mill custody case. When David and Maggie were divorced two years ago, the father was drinking. He never contested the mother getting the kids. Now he's in AA, a church goer, and about to get married.

Arnie Becker : He's cleaned up his act and he wants full custody.

Cara Jean 'C.J.' Lamb : Arnie, it is more complicated. Eventually he has been thinking about this for some time. He hired a private investigator and found out that Maggie was involved with someone.

Arnie Becker : So what? She's been divorced for two years.

Cara Jean 'C.J.' Lamb : The relationship started during the marriage.

Arnie Becker : If the husband didn't bring it up during the divorce, he's going to have a hard time now. Maggie is a good mother, right?

Cara Jean 'C.J.' Lamb : The best.

Arnie Becker : So, the affair is nothing to worry about. If Ann has the time, this is a piece of cake.

Cara Jean 'C.J.' Lamb : Arnie, the lover is a woman.

Arnie Becker : [caught off guard]  What?

Cara Jean 'C.J.' Lamb : The children are six and eight. The father claims that they're better off with him. Last Friday, Maggie fired her lawyer because he told her that David would probably win.

Arnie Becker : Not necessarily. In California, homosexuality alone isn't grounds for denying custody.

Cara Jean 'C.J.' Lamb : Yeah, but we both know that it happens.

Arnie Becker : Yes, that's usually because of judicial bias. But according to the law, being gay is relevant only if the woman is promiscuous or if she's bringing the wrong kind of people home to her kids. What's this other woman like? Do we know anything about her.

Cara Jean 'C.J.' Lamb : A lot, actually. It's me.
