- Madeline confronts her mysterious past while foiling a terrorist plot to contaminate the water supply with radiation.
- "He's skilled, deadly and refuses to crack. Extreme interrogation techniques have no effect on a terrorist (Harris Yulin) who knows the whereabouts of a cache of Cobalt 60... but Section may yet have ploys that no terrorist would suspect."
This episode gives the audience a deeper insight into Madeline. It opens with Madeline training in a VR (virtual reality) sim. Nikita comes in and Madeline briefs her on Kessler, their newest target.
No one knows what Kessler looks like and he is impossible to find, so Section must follow the Cobalt. Michael and Nikita pose as guards in the defense contractor where the Cobalt is stored. Kessler kills the man who has access to the Cobalt room and takes his eye for the retinal scan. He then changes the code so Nikita can't get in. While pursuing him, Nikita is trapped between two bulletproof barriers and Kessler shoots a fellow operative. Michael stops Kessler, but he has handed off the Cobalt to someone else.
Birchoff gives Operations and Madeline a background on Kessler for his debriefing. Madeline begins talking with Kessler and he knows more about her than Section knows about him. "He's getting to her," say sBirchoff. Madeline responds by injecting Kessler with a drug to cause pain. It doesn't seem to bother him. Section decides to bring in Kessler's daughter to try and break him.
Kessler recounts what happened to Madeline as a child: she and her sister were playing at the tops of the stairs and they both wanted the doll. Madeline interrupts his story to inform him that Section has Annie, his daughter. Annie and her father are introduced. Kessler requests that he may touch Annie and he whispers to her about her mother, prompting her to lean in closer. Kessler bites her jugular to save her from what Section would do to her.
Nikita and Madeline have a discussion regarding what Kessler said to her about her sister. Madeline finishes the story: she pushed her sister to get the doll and has felt guilty for her death ever since.
Michael presents two expendable candidates to Madeline. His job is to beat up Kessler in an attempt to get him to talk. The ulterior motives behind this event are so Kessler can escape and feel as if he's fooled Section. Madeline watches as the operative dies and Kessler walks out the door.
Michael's team follows the tracking device planted on Kessler and finds a dead man with the tracker stuck to his face. Kessler contacts Section and demands that Madeline come to him in exchange for the Cobalt. Operations doesn't want to risk letting Madeline go, but she is willing.
Section has operatives following Madeline as she follows Kessler's directions to their meeting place, but Kessler has planted bombs in the field and they cannot follow her. She falls through the ground into a tunnel, where Kessler is waiting. As he reaches for her throat, she overcomes him and Nikita appears...along with the real Madeline. Michael had pulled a page from Kessler's book and worn a latex mask.
The episode ends in Nikita's apartment. Madeline comes to visit Nikita for the first time. They share a pot of tea and when Nikita asks, Madeline says she's there to remember who she was.
