Back in the day of the B western it was always a plot gambit to have the cowboy
hero ride up and unerringly take the right side of someone outnumbered in a
shootout. One reason I like this episode of Laramie so much is that in this
case Jess Harper sees three guys shooting it out with David McLean.
Boy does he ever get it wrong. Later on one of those same bounty hunters spots Robert Fuller and McLean in a saloon and the guns start blazing. Fuller gets a scalp wound and when he wakes up he finds himself being held for murder and a $1000.00 bounty by the sheriff. McLean switches identies with him and a wallet which contains $500.00 proceeds from a sale of Sherman cattle.
The only clue Fuller has to go on was McLean remarking he was heading for a certain ranch. I won't say more because the plot really gets convoluted. Also McLean gains his trust again and nearly kills him this time. You'd never think Jess Harper is so easily fooled.
One of the best Laramie episodes.
