The marshals of Agate
bkoganbing15 December 2017
Slim Sherman and Jess Harper leave Sherman Station seeking a market for their cattle and again the Shermans are cash poor. They arrive at Agate, Nebraska where the sheriff was recently killed and handle a gunslinger in a saloon brawl. That convinces the mayor and the town council to hire both of them as town marshals. With a nice inducement of $100.00 and $25.00 extra if they can stop a brewing range war.

The war is between Beverly Garland and her neighbors whom she swears are stealing her cattle who are disappearing. One of those neighbors is George Neise who is the Mayor of Agate who hired John Smith and Robert Fuller in the first place.

Did you not think that they would solve Agate's problems? In this case with a bit of help from Garland's foreman Edgar Buchanan. Garland is quite the toughie herself. Her role looks very much like one of Barbara Stanwyck's western parts.

Also look for Richard Devon playing a fancy dressed and very mean gunslinger.

A very nice shootout as well in the end. Couldn't ask for more.

One of the best episodes

I recently started watching Laramie and remember Robert Fuller from Emergency during 1970's. Me and my wife just saw this episode a few days ago and being shot in black and white , really brought an grittiness to the episode that rings with me . And seeing Edgar Buchanan as ramrod was cool after always seeing him in mostly hoboesque roles through out his career was a welcome change . And Richard Devon always played a great bad guy without remorse as he did in an later episode " Gun Duel " he played a similar Character ! Slim and Jess were trying just to find buyers for there beef and end up in a small town of Agate Nebraska , and end up in a fight for there lives . The way this episode of Laramie was shot with the use shadows and darkness really made this episode stand out for me and my wife we dvr the episode and had to watch it again .
