- Quotes
[first lines]
Clegg: You're looking very thoughtful, Truly. You look like a man who's thinking about life and death and what it's all about.
Truly: Well, actually, I was thinking about how much I used to like a kipper for my breakfast. But they tend to repeat.
Clegg: There you are, you see. Ha-ha. Why do kippers repeat? It's one of your fundamental philosophical problems.
Truly: What did Bertrand Russell say about it?
Clegg: Well, he mixed with the left, as you know, so naturally he blamed the Americans.
Truly: Did you ever have kipper for breakfast?
Clegg: Yes, I did, once. Huh. It was on honeymoon; we were at a hotel. I thought: "Why not? Everything else is weird."
Truly: I used to have a digestive system like an incinerator; I could consume anything. Well, you had to in the police; I mean you grabbed a meal when you could. First week in the vice squad you lost your appetite. Huh. But after that I could digest concrete, Which was just as well as that was what the former Mrs Truelove did best.
First of all, this episode is generally remembered for one thing in particular, it's say the final performance of the glorious Thora Hird. The last time we would see Edie, no longer would she hold a teacup and saucer of Royal Albert Old Country Roses, and pinch the single chocolate eclair, she would he hugely missed, poor dear looks so frail here, but just as her on screen husband did, she continued to act, despite being very poorly.
The episode itself is a funny one, it's always nice to see Truly in a scrape, so often it's Barry or Smiler that's on the receiving end of some sort of joke. It's good to see that Brian Murphy seems to have now moved in as a regular.
My old gran used to have purple hair, I miss those old ladies that used to have a blue rinse. I can't say I'm very aware of Joanne Mockford, I'll look out for her, she sounds so much like Anne Reid.
I thought this was funny, 8/10.
