Four Words: Giant, Inflatable, Fat Lady!
extremesteamkeys26 April 2019
This is definitely one of my favourite Last of the Summer Wine episodes. Anything that features a giant inflatable fat lady has to get at least 1 extra star in my book!

Beyond that side of things, this episode is, at least to me, insanely funny. It's absolutely full to the brim with comic ingenuity, and shines through with some of Last Wine's greatest moments. From the chaotic scene with Thora Hird as Edie on the railway line to the peaceful framing of the main trio sitting with their fat, inflatable friend it's hard to keep a straight face at any point.

The laughs just keep on coming until the credits roll and you realise you've just witnessed a piece of comic art.

10* - Absolutely Flawless!

Beware of the Elbow

An episode that makes me wonder why does Edith still have a driving licence in her advanced years. Given how she drives it is a wonder how she ever passed her test.

Glenda is convinced that Edith needs new glasses, at one point she drives on the train track.

Meanwhile our trio meets another eccentric, one who dislikes anything thin. Mr Microwave who has a floating fat lady that Compo has clocked. The rather large balloon might be leaking air and Foggy decides to help him out.

Meanwhile Howard and Marina dance the tango. Wesley and Smiler help Auntie Wainwright out in carrying a valuable wardrobe which they assure her, they will not drop. Until a fat lady floats by.

A decidedly average episode which is low on laughs. Norman Rossington was a familiar face in 1950s/60s cinema but here he just looks odd with a bad dye job.
