sad "last three" episode remembering Compo

Warning: Spoilers
I read online about the introduction of Reggie and that it was unnecessary etc.. I was so overwhelmed with the sadness of Cleggy, Nora and Ivy. The moment that Ivy remembered Sid, the tour in the hills as a final farewell. I mean, I don't even really know these people and still it stayed with me and gave me an overwhelming saddness as well at home. They tried to put in some jokes, for me it was well balanced. Even auntie Wainwright was toned down a littlebit. Surprisingly I thought that Foggy would make an appereance. I did had to check if he was still alive at the time :) I haven't seen the rest of the seasons as yet, but it feels that this should have been the end, or at least last season. As with most shows, if main characters aren't there the rest will feel forced.. to keep it going,.... squize the last drops out of the cashcow. I hope it will not go down this road.

In any case, I love Cleggy and Truly is ok, I wonder what will happen next and who he 3rd person will be.

The long goodbye
Prismark101 November 2018
The episode in some ways is a solemn and sad one. Clegg is still distraught over Compo's death.

Holmfirth prepares for Compo's funeral. His casket arrives with his wellington boots on top. Compo gets one last ride around the Yorkshire Dales.

There is a tender moment as Ivy remembers her late husband by looking at a picture of Sid.

It is too much to expect a lot of humour in this one. Some of it comes courtesy of Auntie Wainwright who closes her shop for the funeral but leaves a mobile phone number emergency purchases. Ivy and Nora cannot get over the smile on Compo's face which was a result of seeing Nora in her black stockings.

Liz Fraser again turns up as Reggie in a tractor. Compo's Thursday lady and she gets a dirty look in the church from Nora Batty.

As I said before, Reggie just rang as a false character to me. Something crowbarred in by Roy Clarke and it really got in the way of the episode.

Just a Small Funeral

Warning: Spoilers
Maybe three episodes centring around Compo's passing was a stretch, as there is some repetition here of concepts/ideas, but this is still a fitting tribute to Bill Owen, and very much deserved.

I thought this episode, as all the trilogy has, combines elements of comedy and pathos, with Peter Sallis particularly on top form as the bereft Cleggy.

The last episode seemed to try Wesley out as the potential new 'third', and this time it's Howard's turn to audition.

Overall, this is a good episode and would actually have provided a fitting end to the sitcom in general. But it was still a hit, and you can see why the BBC would have wanted it to continue.

It would never be the same though.
