JJC and RRF at the BBC
This is a performance not to be missed. If you have the chance to see it, do!
This is real quality production, real BBC. Almost half the show given to JJ Cale with his band during their 1996 European tour. The ever laid-back Cale almost allowing the band to lead him in his own songs, with some superb playing from Christine Lakeland (aka Mrs Cale) on rhythm guitar, Bill Raffensperger on bass, James Cruce on drums, Jim Karstein on percussion, and the inimitable Rocky Frisco (RRF) on piano.
I saw these guys playing London's Hammersmith Apollo (formerly the Odeon) twice during the week this session was recorded. Brilliant. Cale at his best, and an outro with Holland also on piano, harmonising well with Cale and Rock.
All this, and a glimpse of the real Cale - a rare experience indeed.
If you've never met Cale in person, this session will take you one step closer.
