Detectives Briscoe and Curtis investigate the death of a toddler who is found dead in his crib. The autopsy reveals that the child was poisoned with nicotine, a common ingredient in pesticide. The investigation quickly focuses on the child's 19-year-old British nanny, who is clearly not happy in her current job. However, the terms of her employment require her to stay for a full year; otherwise, she must pay for her return home, something she could not afford to do. ADA McCoy is convinced of her guilt, but when one of the prosecutions own witnesses is caught in a lie, it gives an opening to the defense lawyer to get a confession on the stand.
