What a wonderful time to be alive and watch the Westerns as they were happening! Seeing as how I was born in the early '70's, I missed out on 'growing up' with this genre. As I watched this episode, I couldn't help picturing a child sitting in front of the television, his eyes fixed on the screen as he watches the action and adventure. We always KNEW the hero would win in the end, but it was exciting to see how it was done.
I'm amazed at how many of these character actors played in "The Rifleman." It seems every episode has several actors who appeared in TR.
The little girl, Tess is so cute! Having her as his charge doesn't take away from the toughness of the show at all. We only see her at the very beginning and the very end, and she is so tender and concerned when he gets hurt. It's almost like the children are coming through the TV wanting to make sure Buckhart isn't hurt too badly and will be back next week for another exciting adventure.
I don't really have anything to say about this episode personally, but I did love the story line. Sam is an Apache, but he is also a white man in so many ways. He uses a saddle, six-shooter, and doesn't want to be "tough."
