During a terrible, windy storm, Lily is suddenly terrified by the sight of a book of poetry. She explains that the poem, ""Porphyria's Lover"", by Robert Browning reminds her of a man she helped put in prison. Dan tries to convince her that it's only the storm. Then in bed she opens her eyes and sees the man in a black cloak. She screams and Marshal Troop and his deputy come to the rescue but they believe it's a dream as they checked every where and there's no sign that any one came inside. Next day she receives a letter from Galt Steven's but marshal tells her that it's in her handwriting ...
The same day her bartender is sent by Dan to go help the men work on rebuilding the schoolhouse, with Lily's blessing. Then while she is alone, the escaped prisoner shows up and carries her off, and Dan must piece together clues from the poem to locate her before she is killed by the madman.
Lily's testimony sent Galt Stevens to prison for the murder of one of her suitors. Now he's out of jail and looking for revenge. In spite of Marshal Troop's efforts, Lily is captured, tied to a chair and detective gagged with a black cloth.
Excellent episode with the storm adding to the creepy atmosphere and even creepier is Lance Fuller as the poetry loving loon who has the most frightening eyes. It's very much psycho killer in the west - how can I not enjoy this? Peggy Castle screams with the best of them. John Russel is excellent with that cold-eyed reserve and he thinks that Peggy Castle is hallucinating things ... then later gets wise to the truth ...
