You gotta' love this stuff, the proverbial teen story that gets WAY out of hand. We've all witnessed this sort of thing growing up in spades.
10 Stars.
Beave and Wally go fishing and spot an abandoned canoe. Smple simon, right? Beave snags the canoe and returns it to its owner, who promises a reward.
NO SOONER than Beave reaches land --and school--
the story gets sort of overblown, all about him swimming a half mile to rescue the stranded daughter of a millionaire? In actuality, Beaver should have been a writer.
The story gets to Miss Landers, who submits it to the local newspaper and it gets published! Hail the conquering hero --who has a lot of splainin' to do.
Beave has himself to blame... but deep inside, can you really blame him? All us kids always dreamed of being famous for a few seconds or so. This was Beave's two seconds. But there's a price.
Best of it all is Ward and June reading the newspaper account. That's always fun, the look on their faces.
Spot on direction by Gene Reynolds, who was also directing MY THREE SONS, later producer of MASH. This episode also marked the last appearance of Jeri Weil as Judy. I agree with the last reviewer, Jeri got taller. She actually had a real life crush on Jerry Mathers and Tony Dow and later became a successful real estate agent in LA. Whitey (Stanley Fafara) is also in this episode, who we all love. He was such a cool little guy.
Beautifully filmed at Franklin Canyon Park at Beverly Hills, over 600 acres of prime camping and hiking land, used in many movies and tv shows.
SEASON 4 EPISODE 3 remastered.
