Ward is tired of hearing the bragging that Willis 'Corny' Cornelius does about his offspring, his two sons who are Wally and Beaver's ages. Ward has to hear it twice a day as he drives Corny to and from work. But when Corny mentions an upcoming school-wide test that Wally and Beaver haven't even mentioned, Ward feels a little jealous, wishing that Wally and Beaver cared a little more about performing well on it. Ward is somewhat relieved when he learns that it's an IQ test for which the administrators don't want the children to study. After the test, it comes as a surprise to all when Beaver gets the highest mark in the school, and the second highest mark ever in the history of the test as Beaver has never shown any exceptional intelligence. But Ward can't help but do a little boasting of his own back to Corny. Beaver's test result offers its own challenge both for Beaver and his parents. When new student Charles Fredericks makes an admission about the test, June and specifically Ward come to a new understanding about being parents.
