Wally and Lumpy are talking about the summer jobs they are getting, both which are pretty standard for boys their age. When Eddie arrives and joins the conversation, he tells them that he is getting a job on a commercial fishing boat in Alaska, arranged for him by his uncle, who is friends with the owner of the fleet. Eddie still has to meet with the ship captain, Captain Drake, to finalize the deal. Eddie makes the job sound romantic in comparison to Wally and Lumpy's summer plans. Eddie suggests speaking to Captain Drake for all three of them to be able to go, which both Wally and Lumpy would love. However, both Wally and Lumpy's parents won't allow them to go for various reasons. They can't believe that Eddie's parents would allow him to go if theirs won't, which leads to them somewhat not believing that he has this job. To show them that he does, he brings them along to the interview with Captain Drake. The interview, which Wally and Lumpy overhear from the waiting room, is more gruff Captain Drake debunking any romantic notion that Eddie had about the job, which, after the interview, he no longer wants. Eddie has to decide how to get out of the job and still save face with his parents and friends. Wally thinks he knows a way out for Eddie.
