Other Side of the Fence
Prismark1011 March 2024
It is Bob who sees things from the other side of the fence. A promotion has taken him from the factory floor to the office.

He gets to do technical drawings, work overtime, deal with management and the snobby salesmen. He also gets to work with the secretaries Judith and Sally Anne.

Only issue for Bob, he is not very good at the technical drawings.

Terry is also not happy with Bob for taking a promotion. He soon comes round with a chance to go to the work social so he can woo Sally Anne.

It only upsets Nesbit (Michael Sheard) the pushy salesman who has no time for those from the factory floor. He also has an interest in Judith and Sally Anne.

It is an interesting episode with Bob having a chance to upwardly mobile. Only to show loyalty to Terry.

Still Very Sharp

I didn't watch the original series of the Likely Lads, only the follow up "Whatever Happened to". It would have been my parents choice as I was still at school. I am surprised that the writing and characters didn't develop into the success of the 1970s. It was already there. The writing in this episode is very sharp and Bob and Terry are just the same as they were in the 1970s. James Bolan, as Terry, in particular was outstanding in this episode, mind you he had the script!
