This episode marked the last time all of Charles and Caroline Ingalls' biological children - Mary, Laura, Carrie and Grace - and adopted children Albert, James and Cassandra appeared in the same episode, and certainly was one of the only times everyone was under one roof at the same time. This was the final episode for Linwood Boomer and Melissa Sue Anderson (who played Adam and Mary Kendall, respectively).
Even though this is Melissa Sue Anderson's final appearance as Mary, she gets no mention in the title sequence or opening credits, (although Linwood Boomer as 'Adam' does) and instead, only gets a brief "also starring" mention in the end credit roll.
The flashback Almanzo tells was written in the book Farmer Boy, by Laura Ingalls Wilder, which was written about Almanzo Wilder's boyhood.
Victor French receives a "Special Guest Star" credit despite only appearing in a flashback sequence from the original 1974 pilot movie.
When Laura is telling her Christmas story she says the family's first Christmas in Kansas was when she was eight years old. In real life, the Ingalls family moved away from Kansas in 1871 when Laura was four years old, and when Laura was eight years old, the family was living in Walnut Grove, Minnesota.
