Three brothers named Galender arrive in Walnut Grove, and immediately begin to take advantage of the residents. They "purchase" items from the Oleson's store, and tell Mr. and Mrs. Oleson that they will pay for the goods when a bank draft (which really doesn't exist) comes in. They do the same to Mr. Hansen at the lumber mill. Once the lumber is delivered, they sell it to one of Mr. Hansen's customers at a cheaper cost than Hansen would have charged him. The younger brother becomes a bully at school, and beats up Mary. Charles discovers that the brothers grabbed his wife, Caroline causing her eggs to be destroyed. When Charles confronts the brothers, they beat him up, and break 2 of his ribs. Finally fed up, Mary and her classmates beat up the younger Galender brother, and at church that Sunday, Reverend Alden gives a sermon about Heaven and Hell, directly referring to the brothers. The Reverend wants the brothers out of town, and with the help of the residents, they escort the brothers out of town.
