However, Harriet would not be able to have a bank account, having lost all of her legal rights upon marriage. All the property she had, including any money, would have legally belonged to Nels when she married him.
The latch for the lock that Charles puts on the inside of the house is modern and not something that would have been available in the late 1800's.

Later, when the Rev and Doc go to the bank to rob it, having been given the key by the Banker, Almonzo and Charles are waiting for them inside. There is no explanation as to how Charles and Almonzo got inside without a key.
