John Carradine and John David Carson

"Target for Terror" features the legendary John Carradine as Chief Justice Hamilton, whose grandson Paul (John David Carson) has recently escaped several assassination attempts, especially one where Hobo warned him away from a rigged pay locker (earning him the nickname 'Nick,' as in 'nick of time'). Resorting to kidnapping to have his way, Joe (Peter Jobin) seeks to have the Chief Justice set his imprisoned brother free. Meanwhile, Hobo keeps watch at the villain's hotel, alerting the suspicious proprietor (Jack Duffy) after luring the rather dim kidnappers out of the confines of their room. It's fun to watch the dog London outmaneuver his human adversaries, but it's strictly lightweight kiddie fare, enjoyable on that level. John David Carson, son of veteran Western actor Kit Carson, almost got the part of Keith on THE PARTRIDGE FAMILY, achieving cult status for unusual titles such as "Pretty Maids All in a Row," "The Day of the Dolphin," "Creature from Black Lake," "Empire of the Ants," and "Pretty Woman," his last film (he died in 2009). John Carradine appears in three scenes, dapper in tuxedo and moustache, first chastising his grandson, then failing to trace the kidnapper's call, and finally wondering where that dog got to. This was a rare Canadian role for Carradine, with Geza Kovacs recognizable to anyone familiar with David Cronenberg's "Scanners."
