The Ranger and Tonto are after the Crater Gang. They prevent the gang from robbing a stagecoach but retreat to their headquarters at Smoke Tree, a lawless mining community made up of tents. The miners committee hires young, inexperienced Buck Webb as sheriff to try to curb the lawlessness. But Buck is no match for Crater. Unless he gets an assist from our heroes. The second color episode is highlighted by the excellent supporting cast: Tudor Owen, Slim Pickens, and John Berardino. And Ron Hagerthy plays Buck Webb. Ron was Sky King's nephew Clipper in the "Sky King" series. In 1959 he played John Wayne's nameless bugler in "The Horse Soldiers." This is a good exciting episode with a suspenseful climax.
