- For client Nelson Woodley, Mike agrees to the potentially dangerous assignment of being the $100,000 ransom drop off person in return for Woodley's kidnapped thoroughbred race horse, Viscount. The ransom amount is only half Viscount's assessed value, which makes it a win situation in Duke's eyes if Mike is successful. Mike is to be picked up by agents for the kidnappers at a preassigned location, they who will drive Mike to Viscount's location for return once they are satisfied they have received the moneys and that they weren't followed. Mike was chosen for the obvious reason that he would not be able to identify the men who pick him up. The process goes smoothly, Viscount and Mike who return safely. However, what Nikki and Duke among others see as Mike's mission a fait accomplis, Mike sees as only the first step as he intends to identify the kidnappers and retrieve the ransom moneys, largely just to get back at one of the kidnappers who almost seemed to be mocking him the entire time during the ransom process. He intends to use whatever sounds, smells and feels he can remember within the allotted time-frame of the ransom process to get back to the location where Viscount was held, and identify the two men involved. But he also intends to delve into Woodley's personal life, he and his wife, Julia, who are going through a divorce and Viscount which would comprise a valuable asset in the Woodleys' portfolio.—Huggo
