- TriviaThis is one of the more unusual episodes of the second season in that it is less comedic than usual and features aliens that are a credible threat.
- GoofsA standard-size bowling ball of solid gold would weigh about 225 lb. It's unlikely that young Will would be able to pick up/carry such weight easily as shown.

Saticon #1: [Speaking to the Robot] I know what you are thinking, but resistance would be futile.

A return to first-season quality
I've been working my way slowly and painfully through season two, which I haven't watched in decades. By this time, Irwin Allen had allowed the show to devolve into "Dr. Smith's Peril of the Week," and the balance between characters shifted almost irreparably.
However, this script by Barney Slater (who wrote nine of the most memorable first-season scripts) brings back the ensemble feel that made the black-and-white season so special. Everyone has a part to play, and the "monsters of the week" are actually dark and menacing, rather than silly rubber-suited aliens. Their odd costumes and whispering voices were extremely scary to me when I first saw it at age 10.
At the center of the plot is the Robot, needed by the aliens to help them plan their takeover of Earth. WRECK OF THE ROBOT reminds us that the mechanical man is an extremely vital part of the Robinson family unit. This is a very solid second-season effort and well worth watching.
