The main plot concerns child pornography, but in many ways, that is merely the backdrop to a larger story. The larger story is that reporter Sharon McNeil has promised confidentiality to the mother of the little girl making adult films. The police get a tip from the girl's teacher, whom we saw earlier in the episode, but they arrive at the house too late (the family has moved). We go through scenes where Sharon feels guilty about putting the child in more danger, and Rossi tries to remind her of the good that her article is accomplishing. In some ways, the drama seems a bit exaggerated, because the teacher should've reported her concerns to the principal or to the police directly, instead of just consulting with a newspaper reporter. Also, it is established that the family is on public relief, so after the police have found out the mother's name, they should be able to track her down at the next location.
