Never seen a Lovejoy? Watch this two-parter

OK, I'm new to Lovejoy. Thank you, Amazon Firestick.

So I'm binge-watching right from the beginning. And I will confess that in about half the episodes I can barely keep track of what the h3ll is going on. The convoluted plots and the poncey accents bamboozle me. A lot of time my enjoyment comes from the chemistry between the characters, which is more than enough to hold my interest.

But they really nailed it this time. We get a two-parter starring Brian Blessed as a big-time antique/art broker, and Linda Gray from one of television's all-time greatest hits, Dallas.

Blessed sells Gray's husband some forgeries. Lovejoy illustrates to her they're fakes. She gets angry.

Blessed pulls a similar stunt with a Japanese banker. Lovejoy proves that bit of fakery, too. Banker gets angry.

Now the banker and Gray want revenge. Lovejoy comes up with the sting.

Easy to follow. Remarkable performances from all the actors. Tons of fun.

This could have easily been a theatrical release and nobody would have complained about shelling out their 10 sovs to see it.
