Classic TV Xmas Countdown Episode #22
kgraovac20 December 2023
Lucy tries to persuade Mr. Mooney to let Jerry's school choir perform a Christmas recital at the bank.

This is not a bad episode, it's just that without Viv or anyone at home to play off, it doesn't seem as festive. Also, Lucy comes across like a total airhead here. First, she mixes up all the tags on the gifts Mooney has bought. Later, she's totally oblivious as she wreaks havoc in a Xmas tree lot.

Lastly, this is Jimmy Garrett's final appearance as Jerry Carmichael, and as such, the final tie to the Danfield era. Lucy does not share one second of one-on-one time with him in the whole episode.

Best line (from Mooney): "I wouldn't pay twenty dollars for a tree if Tarzan and Jane were living in it". Funniest bit is when he gives Lucy false hope she's going to be able to keep his gift of the Italian sweater - then yanks it away.

During the finale where the choir performs "The Twelve Days of Christmas" Lucy's gestures to help the boys remember the lyrics are cute. She looks very festive in her red dress and pumps. Mooney is front and center because they needed a baritone and Gale Gordon's facial expression are priceless - as though he'd rather be ANYWHERE else. Also, he misses a cue, which is good for a laugh. 7/10.
