- A helicopter crash introduces the 4077 to Colonel Sam Flagg, the well-built (says Hotlips) paranoid with a broken arm who refuses all painkillers. Colonel Flagg (who can also be identified as Major Brooks, Lt. Carter, Ensign Troy and Capt. Louise Klein) is CIA. Meanwhile, Trapper's friend, Vinny Pratt, also drops in; Vinny is Intelligence (G-2) and he wants to find out what Flagg is doing. Flagg is BIG, so his operation must be crucial. Because of Fr. Mulcahy, Vinny cannot be Capt. Perkins the priest, so he becomes Capt. Stone, the engineer. Vinny Pratt introduces himself to Henry as Major Strauss G-2 and tells Henry to call him Pratt. Flagg tells Hawkeye Flagg is Carter and Stone is really Martinez; so, if Martinez is there, the operation must be really BIG. Flagg is in the CID; he tells people he is CIA because it throws off people who think he is CIC. Then, Flagg re-breaks his own arm so he can continue treating...and spying. The surgeons have had more "intelligence" for one lifetime, Radar cables Tijuana for Flagg: "Mary had a little lamb. Stop. My dog has fleas. Stop. Mairzy doats and dozey doats, and I'll be home for Christmas. Signed: Your loving son, Queen Victoria." Pratt says HE is Mary. The guys bring the spy nonsense to a head by "doctoring" personnel files. Is Frank Burns a Communist, like Flagg believes? Or is he a Fascist, as Pratt suspects? It may be off to the Lubyanka, or some other gulag, for old Ferret Face.—LA-Lawyer
- When the cryptic Col. Flagg starts snooping around the 4077, he draws in the interest of another intelligence agent named Pratt, a friend of Trapper's. When chaos reigns as Flagg and Pratt try to outsmart and one up each other, Hawkeye and Trapper decide it is time to teach them both a lesson.—theBCI
- A helicopter crash introduces the 4077 to Colonel Sam Flagg (Edward Winters), the well-built (says Hotlips) paranoid with a broken arm who refuses all painkillers. Colonel Flagg (who can also be identified as Major Brooks, Lt. Carter, Ensign Troy and Capt. Louise Klein) is CIA. Flagg wont speak to anyone without checking their clearance. He tells Henry that the copter crash ruined a very sensitive mission. Flagg has to throw up to a get a number from a capsule, to make a call to his HQ. Radar tells Trapper and Hawkeye that Flagg is CIA and on a secret mission. Meanwhile, Trapper's friend, Vinny Pratt (Bill Fletcher), also drops in; Vinny is Intelligence (G-2) and he wants to find out what Flagg is doing. Flagg is BIG, so his operation must be crucial. Pratt thinks that CIA showboats with missions around budget time and beat Intelligence out of $20MM same time last yr. Pratt also suggests that Flagg crashed his own helicopter, walked out of the crash and then broke his arm with a hammer.
Because of Fr. Mulcahy, Vinny cannot be Capt. Perkins the priest, so he becomes Capt. Stone, the engineer. Vinny Pratt introduces himself to Henry as Major Strauss G-2 and tells Henry to call him Pratt, but not Stone. He also threatens Henry with recording of an affair he had with a "rent a car" Girl in Indiana back in 1948. Pratt tells Henry that the motel room was bugged and will send the recordings to his wife, if he fails to cooperate. Henry is fearful and agrees to cooperate with Pratt.
Flagg finds out that Pratt is at the 4077th. He tells Hawkeye, Flagg is Carter and Stone is really Martinez; so, if Martinez is there, the operation must be really BIG. Flagg is in the CID; he tells people he is CIA because it throws off people who think he is CIC. Then, Flagg re-breaks his own arm so he can continue treating at MASH...and spying at Pratt. Flagg gets Radar to send a telegram to his HQ.. Only the telegram is heavily encrypted and makes no sense to any common person. It has nursery rhymes, and is addressed to an Import-Export company in Tijuana, Mexico. Radar shows the telegram to Hawkeye and Pratt. The surgeons have had more "intelligence" for one .. Pratt wants radar to continue a lookout on Flagg as Flagg has identified Pratt as intelligence. Pratt is dying to know who is Flagg's target and vice-versa. Neither has anything to do with 4077th, but believe that the other does and is determined to spoil it for them.
Flagg decides to enlist Margaret and Frank to help him with his snooping. Pratt takes Hawkeye's and Trapper's help to alter Frank's file as he knows Flagg will try to get into Frank's file before he will trust him. But Hawkeye and Trapper are sick of the spy games, they get Radar to switch Frank's files and switch a different version of Frank's files for Pratt too. Next morning Frank is arrested by Flagg for being a communist and by Pratt for being a fascist. Hawkeye and Trapper admit the gag and Frank is let go.
