It was Alan Alda's idea to have Mike Farrell grow a mustache in the seventh season. Farrell kept it for the rest of the show's run.
A new recording of the theme is used from this episode through the end of the series. There is no alteration to the arrangement, but the change in performance is notable, as the piccolo consistently plays a flat note.
When Col. Potter is leaving the swamp, as Major Winchester is wheezing and sputtering because of his sinuses he says to Winchester "Courage Camille". The phrase originally comes from Alexander Dumas' 1857 play 'Camille: The Lady of the Camellias' in which Monsieur Duval tells Camille, "Courage, Camille, Courage."
Starting with this episode, BJ's personal style becomes more sloppy and relaxed. He grows longer, unkempt hair and "cheesy" mustache, his wardrobe now includes Hawaiian shirts and what will eventually become his trademark outfit: a red or pink long john shirt, army green "vest" made from a standard uniform with the sleeves removed, and black Converse sneakers, none of which is regulation. The change in general appearance reflects a change in attitude, as he becomes more surly, aggressive, and somewhat sanctimonious and as the series progresses, largely leaving the quiet, smiling sidekick behind.
Starting with this season, the cinematographer warmed the color palette and changed film stocks, which explains the sharper, more clearer picture from hereon out, as opposed to the rougher, almost grainier look of the first six seasons.
