One of the few episodes that "Hawkeye" Pierce gives a sincere salute.
Second straight episode where Radar is called a "ninny." In "Fade Out, Fade In" (1977), Maj. Houlihan uses the insult under her breath. In this episode, Hawkeye shouts it in aggravation. Ironically, Houlihan scolds him for it later.
This is one of the rare appearances of Gary Burghoff's malformed left hand. It can be seen while he is delivering the mail at the beginning of the episode.
Radar receives the Purple Heart, an honorable recognition for a service member killed or wounded in a combat area of operation. Its history dates back to 1932, given in the name of the U.S. President serving at the time of the incident. Radar clearly earned this distinction, unlike MAJ Burns in the episode The Kids.
The catalyst of the plot is Radar wishing to man up and finally have sexual intercourse with a woman, but previous episodes make it clear he's already had a fling with a handful of nurses at the 4077.
