- What will be the latest casualty of war: the ego of Hawkeye Pierce, the engagement of Margaret Houlihan or the fidelity of BJ Hunnicutt?
Lt. Carrie Donovan (Ann Sweeny) is having marital problems: she received a "Dear Jane" letter. But, she would rather discuss her problems with BJ than Hawkeye. Hawkeye wanted to take her to the movies, but she passes and says she is helping BJ with some cases in post op. Hawkeye teases BJ that there is a little something romantic going on between him and Carrie, but BJ insists it is just work. After post op, Carrie wants to talk to BJ, but in an secluded spot where they are not interrupted. They go to her tent. BJ stays out all night and then he wants to write home and confess his sins. Is Hawkeye as good a marriage counselor as he is a surgeon? BJ starts avoiding Carrie from the next day as he feels very guilty of betraying his wife Peggy back home. Bj tells Hawkeye that he loves his wife and kids. He feels terrible for cheating on Peggy. Hawkeye tears the letter BJ is writing and asks BJ not to punish Peggy as well. He says BJ stumbled, but he still loves his wife and his marriage.
Meanwhile Carrie puts in for a transfer, but Potter convinces her to stick around for a little while (He thinks Carrie has hit a rough patch and just needs time to work things out). Carrie notices that BJ has been avoiding her for a week. She talks to BJ, who admits that he is attracted to Carrie and doesn't trust himself around her. Carrie says that he only helped a friend who needed him for one night, and that she is not looking for a relationship with BJ. She agrees to be friends with BJ. Klinger says he is a serial killer from Toledo. He wants to expedited back, so he can stand a lengthy jury trial back in Toledo. But Potter refuses since the last murder took place only 2 weeks ago.
Poor Margaret is very worried because she has not received a letter from Donald in the last 4 days. When she learns her fiance is in the hospital, she is manic, trying to find out what happened to him. She gets Radar to place an emergency call to Tokyo General Hospital, only to find that Donald is not accepting calls. Houlihan gets Radar to leave a message, asking Donald to call her at the 4077th MASH. She asks for permission from Potter to travel to Tokyo, but is denied as Potter wants her to wait and find out what happened. Potter wont tie up a chopper and a nurse only to find that Donald had a pimple on his butt. Frank makes another pass at Margaret after gifting her a Japanese umbrella inside her tent, but she kicks him out when he tries to get physical with her.
Finally Radar gets through to Donald. Margaret finds that he has a double hernia and yells at Donald to be more careful.
