- Ignoring Margaret's offers to help, Potter and B.J. head a bowling team in a championship match against the Marines. Hawkeye's father is having an operation back home, so Hawkeye feels helpless enough to confide in Charles.
- Hawkeye anxiously awaits word on his father's operation stateside (He got his father's letter 2 weeks late, which mentioned the surgery), and even confides in Charles. Hawkeye tries to get in touch via phone, but gets mired endlessly and cant reach the hospital his father is admitted in. when he finally gets through, his father is already in surgery and the nurse tells them that his father has cancer on his kidney. Surgically removable, but tricky. Winchester stays with Hawkeye through the night and exchange stories about how different fathers lead different families. Hawkeye is afraid that he will lose his father without even speaking with him, and being 12000 miles apart. Hawkeye is friends with his dad, while Winchester's dad was a disciplinarian.
MASH 4077 cohorts engage the Marines in a bowling tournament (they have lost to the Marines at football, basketball and softball). MASH has lost to the marines at everything and Potter is keen to find something that they can beat the Marines at, and Klinger suggests bowling. Since Margaret has cost them some games (They lost the basketball game because of her) in the past, Potter overlooks her appeals to be on the bowling team. Potter, Klinger and BJ are in. The game is set for a week later. There is no bowling alley available in the whole of Korea. Potter constructs a bowling alley in the middle of the mess tent. But they still don't have a 4th bowler. In desperation, Potter asks Klinger to get him a 4th body. He still overlooks Houlihan. Mulcahy is a terrible bowler (he lofts the bowl at the pins), but he is drafted But the Marines have brought in a ringer (Marty Urbancic (William Lucking)). Marty is a professional bowler and the Marines have got him transferred him to their unit, specifically for this match with the 4077th. Potter is so determined to win at all costs that he asks Margaret to spend the night with Marty to keep him off his game. Margaret is offended and refuses. She says the marines may have a pro, but Potter doesn't.
Her nurses convince Margaret to not lose another game to the Marines and she keeps Marty busy all night. The next day, the game starts (Potter has taken in Mulcahy as the 4th player) and Marty still manages to score a strike, while being punch drunk. MASH is rescued when a batch of wounded come in and this gives time to Potter to re-think his strategy. Mulcahy pulls out due to blisters and Hawkeye is drafted in. BJ and Winchester pass a pick me up pill to Marty, which is actually something that turns urine blue. The game starts after surgery. Marty pees and finds blue urine. BJ and Winchester tell him that his kidneys are overworked and that he shouldn't bend for a week. He starts shooting blanks at the bowling game.
Meanwhile Hakweye's call comes through and Potter has no choice but to pick Margaret. Hawkeye speaks to his dad and is able to tell him that he loves him. Margaret bowls strike and helps MASH beat the marines.
