Although the PA voice at the Kimpo Air Field sounded like Wayne Rogers (Trapper), it was not him, as stated by Larry Gelbart.
Debut of Mike Farrell as Captain B.J. Hunnicut, and the first episode to last more than 25 minutes.
In the second half of the episode when Hawkeye, BJ, and Radar are helping the soldiers being shelled on the road, Hawkeye tells Radar to have someone call the 4077th for helicopters. Radar responds by saying the 8-0-double-nickel (8055) is closer. The 8055th MASH unit was the real unit in which Richard Hooker served during the Korean War and based his book "MASH" on. This book would later be made into a movie and this television series.
This is the first time Jamie Farr is in the opening credits
Neurapraxia, the medical condition Hawkeye claims Radar has in order to blow through the checkpoints, is a real condition, accurately described by Hawkeye as a "temporary loss of nerve function." It's the mildest classification of peripheral nerve injury, common in athletes, particularly football players. Defined as an injury to a nerve that interrupts conduction causing temporary paralysis followed by a complete and rapid recovery (i.e. hitting your funny bone or sitting on your foot until it falls asleep). It's most commonly caused by trauma or physical compression of a nerve against the bone, and is not contagious as Hawkeye claims, nor are the side effects (i.e. trying to bite your own nose, etc.) he describes.
