Not a bad episode of Magnum, P. I., that had the bullets flying kind of like The A-Team, although here some of the good guys got hit. Annette Charles guest stars as Maria Torres, who plays a major double-cross role and kind of is attracted to Magnum over a pizza. Wonderful to see Jeff MacKay back as Mac. Mac makes any Magnum, P. I. episode worth watching for sure. We need more Mac.

I really like the seventh season of Magnum, which had its experimental moments, as I think it was planned that season seven would be the last. Anyway, I haven't watched the Magnum reboot as I'm not that interested really.

No payoff

Warning: Spoilers
The incredibly annoying Mac 2 is back, always a bad sign. This time, he's managed to put Magnum on the kill list of a Mexican crime boss, get TC shot and steal his helicopter.

Alongside Mac's presence, this episode suffers greatly from not having a payoff. Maria is exposed and killed far too quickly and casually. Then, when we think we're heading for the exciting final showdown with Valez and his men, the third act turns out to be exclusively about Magnum having to land a light aircraft. This ends with a farcical scene where everybody at flight control is so busy celebrating getting the plane down that they forget to tell Magnum where the brakes are! Just because you've reference Airplane!, it doesn't mean you have to suddenly turn a serious episode into a spoof.

And that's it. The story's over. We finish in the hospital. Valez has - very unsatisfyingly - been arrested offscreen. Mac is still trying to con the others. They're still treating him like a naughty child rather than the malignant tumour that he actually is. And after one good outing (Murder by Night) season 7 has returned to the state of mediocrity that it plunged into after four high-quality opening episodes.
