Maigret under attack.
Tony-Holmes29 September 2022
Another great episode, this time Maigret has to struggle, being accused of sexual advances by a pretty 18-y-old, who has powerful connections, and another agenda.

Despite being suspended, with his team under threat, Gambon gradually finds out what could have been happening, and sets out to make a difficult case against the conspirators.

Featuring another terrific support cast, Barbara Flynn makes her debut as his wife, (her slightly perky comments reminded me strongly of the Beiderbecke series, with James Bolam), Susannah Doyle (her dad had been in another episode), Deborah Faulkner, Pip Torrens, (Maigret's uppity new boss), and more.

Maigret on the Defensive

Warning: Spoilers
Based on the novel Maigret Defends himself. Maigret finds that his chivalrous action has landed him in hot water.

A young woman he went to see in a bar after getting a phone call from her has accused Maigret of sexualm assault. She has connections leaving the Chief Commissioner (Pip Torrens) no option but to suspend him.

Somewhat embarrassed, although Mrs Maigret (Barbara Flynn) is supportive. Maigret tries to clear his name. He thinks that a criminal called Lautier that he has tried to arrest has fitted him up.

Lucas and Janvier valiantly try to assist Maigret. However a trip to the dentist leads him to some previously undetected crimes.

The story is an examination of pure evil. There has to be a big conspiracy behind Maigret's travails.

The fact that Maigret stumbles across his salvation is more down to luck which apparently reflects the novel. It was still a leap as to how Maigret got to the dentist in this adaptation even though it is explained in the story.
