When in Rome do as the Romans do
sol-kay9 February 2011
***SPOILERS*** Doing a photo spared on the Roman elections Mike Kovac, Charles Bronson, on his way back to the states spots big time socialite and Audry Hepburn look-alike Sharon Rogers, Audrey Dalton, and her entourage at the Rome Airport! Right away Mike decides to go to the big garden party that Sharon's rich Uncle Johathan Rogers, King Calder,is throwing so he can, besides take pictures, get a chance to talk to Sharon. As we soon find out Sharon Rogers is not Sharon Rogers in Mike's mind. She's Betty Donald a woman that he met five years ago on a Trans-Atlantic cruse whom he became romantically involved with! It was when things were going great for Mike that she stood him up at the London Savoy Hotel leaving him out in the cold and with a broken heart!

As things soon develop Sharon together with her Uncle Johantan and sister Mona, Elaine Edwards, are a bunch of scam artists who are out to rip off Roman jeweler Bartolo, Alberto Morin, of $250,000.00 for a rare yellow pearl necklace he's eager to sell them. After taking a photo of Uncle Jonathan Kovac and his camera are shoved, by accident of course, into a swimming pool at the garden party by Uncle Jonathan's male secretary Barnes, Bert Remsen. That's after Mike refused to give the film to a very concerned Johanatan Rogers!

Those two jerks, Uncle Johanatan & Berns, had no idea that Mike's camera and the film in it was waterproof! After developing the photo of Uncle Johathan and having it studied by the FBI and Milwaukee WI. Police Department Mike finds out that Uncle Johanatan is a con-artist as well as ex-con who was busted back in Milwaukee four years ago for fraud. Forgetting about his old flame, who stood him up, Sharon Rogers Mike is now determined not to have Uncle Jonathan & Co. rip off the unsuspecting Bertelo of his $250,000! That for a yellow pearl necklace that he in fact sold Uncle Johnatan for $60,000.00 and is now about to buy it back from him at almost four time the price that Uncle Johnatan bought it off him for!

***SPOILERS*** Big showdown at the Rome Airport with Mike getting there in the nick of time before Uncle Johanathan & Co. took off with the $250,0000.00 in cash that Bartolo was about to deliver to him for a pearl necklace that he already sold him! Mike gets his revenge for being thrown into a swimming pool, with all his clothes on, by chasing down and tackling Barnes who tried to make his getaway before the Rome police could put the cuffs on him! As for Mike's lost love Sharon she tells a stunned Mike, as she's lead away by the police, it's not that she thought that Mike wasn't good or high class enough for her by leaving him out in the cold. It was that he was far to good,in him being honest, for him to put up with her in Sharon being the big phony that she is.

Solid Episode With Some Memorable Faces
ccthemovieman-14 November 2011
Mike is back in Europe again, but this time the story is far more interesting. This was a good episode with a lot of intrigue all the way through it.

The crime involved in this story is con artist supreme who is trying to pull a scam involving very expensive yellow pearls. His idea is actually pretty neat, and he would have gotten away with it except for some bad luck and the snooping of our series hero.

This story also features a woman, "Sharon Rogers," with an interesting face. Sometimes she looked like Grace Kelly, with classic beauty lines; otherwise, not so much. It depended on the angle, but she was fascinating to look at regardless. The actress was Audrey Dalton. To Dalton's credit, she gave up Hollywood to be a mom and raise five kids, so she doesn't have a long resume.

Elizabeth Fraser was also in this episode. I always remember her as Bilko's buxom girlfriend in "You'll Never Get Rich: the Phil Silvers Show."

Two Strings of Pearls
Prismark1029 January 2023
Mike Kovac is in Rome and sees a woman called Sharon Rogers who is making a stir with the paparazzi.

Only Mike once knew Sharon under a different name. They were once meant to meet in London but she stood him up.

Confused as to why Sharon is going under a different identity. Mike attends a lavish garden party thrown by her uncle Jonathan Rogers.

He claims to be some kind of bigwig but does not like his photo to be taken. He also has a goon called Barnes hanging about. Barnes throws Mike into a swimming pool for taking Uncle Jonathan's picture.

Mike is now sure that Uncle Jonathan is a swindler. He had done time in Milwaukee.

Now Uncle Jonathan is involved in a scam with some valuable yellow pearls with Sharon. Basically selling them back to the jeweller he purchased them from. By telling the jeweller that the one he purchased has gone missing and if the jeweller could source the same ones.

Mike is determined to put a stop to the swindle.

A good episode, a little backstory with Mike. I did not know water could not damage the film camera. The scam was rather neat.

An international con
lor_7 October 2023
Chuck is in Rome, having completed a photo job there, when he's recruited to shoot a lavish party, and is shocked to see an old girlfriend of his at the airport. She doesn't recognize him, and he's determined to find out why.

Her uncle is throwing the party, and she turns out to be involved with him in a con scheme involving a valuable string of rare pearls. Chuck gets to the bottom of everything and saves the day, but in his catching the uncle for arrest by the Roman authorities he scotches his old romance's possibility of being revived.

It's a well-written episode, with a nicely tuned bittersweet ending.
