- Quotes
Joe Mannix: Well, what can I do for you, Miss Warren?
Cindy Warren: Well, um, after I left headquarters last night, I didn't feel like going back to that house, so I checked into a motel in West L.A. I was there I guess about maybe ten minutes and I got a phone call from a man, and, uh, he threatened me.
Joe Mannix: Do you know who it was?
Cindy Warren: No.
Joe Mannix: Well, what exactly did the man say, exactly, word for word?
Cindy Warren: Well, he said... he said something like, "Did Monty rap to anyone before he died?"
Joe Mannix: What did you tell him?
Cindy Warren: I said I didn't think so. And then, uh... Hey, I'm not exactly sure how all this went down, but, well, he kept hitting on, "Did Monty and Victor Jury talk?" Oh, yeah, he asked if Monty made any phone calls.
Joe Mannix: Did he?
Cindy Warren: Well, not after Victor and I got there.
Joe Mannix: Did he mention anything about Monty's mother or buttons... or General D.?
Cindy Warren: No.
Joe Mannix: Anything else?
Cindy Warren: Yeah. The last thing he said to me was, "If you talk, Miss Warren, you're going to wind up like Monty did."
Joe Mannix: Talk about what?
Cindy Warren: I don't know.
Joe Mannix: Have you any idea?
Cindy Warren: No, I asked him and he hung up.
[Peggy walks in with some coffee]
Joe Mannix: Peggy, see if you can get John Randolph on the phone, huh?
Peggy Fair: The postal inspector of the Federal Building?
Joe Mannix: Yeah, ask him if he can find out if there's any mail being held for Monty Dawes at a general-delivery office anywhere in this area.
Peggy Fair: Right.
Cindy Warren: It's really weird. I'm caught up in something, but I don't know what it is. Why me? I don't know why I'm involved. I don't know what I'm going to do to get out.
Joe Mannix: Well, the first thing to do is find a safe place for you to stay until we come up with some answers.
This is a thrilling episode with lots of fight scenes, great stunts and a terrific chase scene with some awesome spinouts.
It's also interesting and original as the true story regarding Button Gwinnett's signature was woven into the plot and everything that was said was absolutely accurate, so great job by the writers in doing their homework and making sure everything is accurate.
The bodies really pile up in this one, with a total body count of four. Too bad that annoying bank lady Joe talked to wasn't one of them.
Once again we have the aggravating and overused cliché where Joe's client leaves the hideout after he tells her not to. Joe also gets shot at several times but never hit.
Joe doesn't clobbered over the head but he does get into several fistfights and takes a horrible tumble down a staircase and takes a major haymaker in the jaw on the way down. He also takes on two goons at the same time at the end.
This is a very entertaining and intense episode and one of the best episodes of the season.
