Did you know
- TriviaAfter appearing on the city block set used several times in early seasons, "Herbert's Delicatessen" is an empty, for-rent storefront here.
- GoofsThe newspaper headline says Mannix captured a suspected blackmailer, but the story is just a bunch of random words strung together in a nonsensical sentence.
- Quotes
Joe Mannix: [Kathy tells him about a dream she had in which he died] I was dead? And that's why you're here?
Kathy Warren: Yes. I'm afraid it might actually happen.
Joe Mannix: Because of your dream?
Kathy Warren: I don't know how to explain my dreams to you, Mr. Mannix... except that they do come true. I saw you killed, on a black horse like Major.
Joe Mannix: Major?
Kathy Warren: Yes, at the riding club. One of the stable hands rides him a lot. I saw you there. There was blood on your hand from... from where'd you fallen.
[Joe shows her his hands to reveal that there is no blood on them]
Kathy Warren: Oh, I know how tempting it must be for you to laugh at me, Mr. Mannix.
Joe Mannix: There is one thing, Miss Warren. Considering we've never met before, I was wondering how I happened to be in your dream in the first place?
Kathy Warren: Oh, I... I don't know.
[Peggy knocks on Joe's office door]
Joe Mannix: Yeah, Peggy?
Peggy Fair: Excuse me. Correspondence from New York. You wanted it the minute you came in. Morning paper. And the press is still hounding us for information.
Joe Mannix: Yeah, well, it can wait. Thanks, Peggy.
Kathy Warren: [looks at the newspaper Peggy brought in] Maybe here!
Joe Mannix: What?
Kathy Warren: Maybe this is how you got into my dream. I read about you in last night's paper.
Joe Mannix: Oh.
Kathy Warren: It's quite a novelty these days. A man risking his life to do something positive for someone else. It's possible I... I just felt that you were something worth saving. I know that only makes it seem more ridiculous to you.
Joe Mannix: Well, I can certainly see that *you* believe in your dream?
Kathy Warren: Oh, it's not a gift, you know. It's not an easy way to pick winners in horse races or lotteries. I can only imagine things when something important is involved, like... pain, sorrow, or death.
Joe Mannix: Go on.
Kathy Warren: Could you do me a favor?
Joe Mannix: If I can.
Kathy Warren: I... I haven't told you the rest of the dream, and I'm not going to now, 'cause you really wouldn't be able to keep a straight face. On this particular day, be careful of lightning.
Joe Mannix: Lightning?
Kathy Warren: Yes. On a street that begins with the letter "W".
Joe Mannix: "W"?
[the intercom on his desk buzzes]
Joe Mannix: Excuse me.
[talks into the intercom]
Joe Mannix: Yeah, Peggy?
Peggy Fair: Lieutenant Malcolm on the line. He says it's important.
Joe Mannix: Yeah, well, uh, in just a second.
Kathy Warren: You really aren't laughing at me, are you?
Joe Mannix: For going out of your way to try and help a total stranger? No, I'm not laughing at you.
Kathy Warren: Well, you made this a lot easier than I expected it to be. I'll remember that when we meet again.
Joe Mannix: Oh? Are we going to meet again?
Kathy Warren: Yes, about 2:00. You see, we're in this together.
Joe Mannix: Huh.
Kathy Warren: Good-bye, Mr. Mannix.
Joe Mannix: Good-bye, Miss Warren.
As I mentioned in the summary, how much you like the show is sure to depend on what you think of this sort of psychic phenomena. I think it's all hogwash--so I was less than impressed. However, despite this, the show is entertaining and the only other problems I saw was at the end when Mannix and the killer are fighting as well as the identity of the person. The killer's gun is emptied and Mannix still has bullets-- yet he tosses the gun aside to have a fistfight with the guy! How ridiculous and what a ditsy cliché! Additionally, who it is and why were things I figured out very, very early into the show.
