- GoofsWhen Mannix is being led from the dune buggy to the spot where he can observe the house he is blindfolded. Yet just as he approaches the scrub brush, he instinctively puts his hand up to protect his face from the brush, something he wouldn't have done if he were really unable to see.
- Quotes
George Lassiter: [Joe meets him at a golf club] Something from the bar, Joe? Uh, coffee?
Joe Mannix: Yeah, coffee's fine.
George Lassiter: Jack, coffee and a scotch on the rocks.
Joe Mannix: Okay, George, now, just what the hell is this all about?
George Lassiter: Well... it was a false alarm. I... I'm sorry, I tried to call you, but you'd already left.
Joe Mannix: Everything's all right with Jeannie?
George Lassiter: Absolutely. I just got spooked. Overreacted.
Joe Mannix: Overreacted to what?
George Lassiter: Well, I know this sounds ridiculous... but... I thought Jeannie'd been kidnapped.
Joe Mannix: And what made you think that?
George Lassiter: Well... I, uh... I got up early and played nine holes and came back, and her car was there, but she wasn't. Her room was in shambles, and I checked with Gloria, and she didn't know where she was, either.
Joe Mannix: And that's when you called me?
George Lassiter: Yeah. And then an hour later, I found a note from her. The wind had blown it off the bar. A friend had driven her to the airport and... put her on a plane to Chicago.
Joe Mannix: Chicago? What's in Chicago?
George Lassiter: A wedding. Girl from school. She was invited to be a bridesmaid.
Joe Mannix: Ah. Well, I... must admit, I like it a lot better this way. After all, Jeannie is my only goddaughter.
[checks his watch]
Joe Mannix: Just sorry I won't get a chance to see her or Gloria.
George Lassiter: Oh, you mean you've got to go right back?
Joe Mannix: Yeah, I'm way up to my neck. The world's full of people in trouble.
Al Ritchie: George... you want a shot at getting your eight grand back, you better hustle, boy.
George Lassiter: Oh, uh... I'll be right with you, cowboy.
Joe Mannix: Eight grand? Is he that good?
George Lassiter: His cards are.
Joe Mannix: Ah. You know, the last time I heard from you, George, you told me you'd kick gambling, and you were trying to put it all back together with Gloria.
George Lassiter: I still am. But this Al Ritchie showed up from Fort Worth claiming to be the best gin player in Texas, and I couldn't resist taking a crack at him. I apologize again.
Joe Mannix: Aw, forget it.
George Lassiter: Joe, can I give you a ride to the airport?
Joe Mannix: Oh, no, no, no, don't bother. I'll catch a cab. George, be sure and give Jenny my love, huh?
George Lassiter: Will do.
Al Ritchie: Nice to have met you, Joe.
Joe Mannix: Likewise.
George Lassiter (James Olson) calls Mannix for help after he finds a ransom note for his daughter. However, after Mannix drops everything and flies to Albuequerque to help his old friend George, George responds that it was all a big misunderstanding and Mannix should go back to L.A.! Well, Mannix isn't fooled and he decides to investigate...and finds that George is hiding something. So he stays in New Mexico...and soon has folks breathing down his neck, ready to pulverize him! Clearly SOMETHING is going on here!!
This kidnapping episode isn't great but it is good...offering some nice twists and surprises here and there. Worth seeing. Plus, it's worth seeing so you can see George's ex-wife, as Rue McClanahan was quite the dish at that time.
