Due to Ted Baxter's illness, a couple things happen. Foremost is that Mary must substitute for him on an interview program. Her guest is a writer named Matthews who has a great personality and is very funny. He is played by Hamilton Camp and he is very short. He flirts with Mary but because she hadn't seen him stand up she didn't realize he was four or five inches shorter than she. They end up going out but she can't get her head around the height difference (he is quite comfortable, but understands her concerns). The scene in her apartment where she tries hard not to make references to his height is hilarious. Rhoda shows up and pushes the envelope even farther. The other little subplot involves Murray filling in for Ted on the news. He wears a toupee and looks ridiculous. Lou must feel he's in the Twilight Zone. There is a funny bit based on Murray replacing Mary on the interview.
