Maude goes to Washington DC as a newly appointed Congresswoman.
The last episode turns out to be a funny one. Sam introduces Maude to the rest of the staff. The legislative assistant Maggie Gallagher (Barbara Rhoades) is a sexy tall ex burlesque performer. Her press secretary Aretha is a black female (Sarina Grant), liberal Maude is happy about this, and finds out Aretha is also half Italian. Nedra Volz is funny as a sassy old housekeeper. This all seems to be a set up for a new direction for the series, but Bea Arthur decided to not continue. Probably a wise move, the series was going out on a mostly high note, although Series 6 had a couple of weaker episodes. It was good that it did not deteriorate like the later seasons of "All In The Family".
