Early John Saxon
dougdoepke21 November 2014
Except for the boxing background and budding teen idol John Saxon, it's a fairly routine episode. Danny (Saxon) lives with his sister and her macho husband, while working at an ushering job in addition to prize fighting. His days are busy trying to earn money, while getting little help from his brother-in-law. Then, one day, he collapses. It's diabetes. Exposition time is spent explaining the cause and treatment of the disorder. Danny will have to inject himself with insulin for the remainder of his life. So it's the end of his boxing career, and how will he earn money his family needs. Note presence of George E. Stone as Danny's fight manager. He's especially known for his movies of the 30's and 40's, especially Little Caesar (1930). Even though there's not as much drama as usual, the 30-minutes is an informative look at what's now a rather common disorder. It's also an interesting look at very early John Saxon in a well cast role.
