"Miami Undercover" : Sunken Treasure – 1961

"Miami Undercover" was a Private Investigator series set in Miami Florida. Lee Bowman headlines as a P.I. who works for the Miami Hotel owner's association. His right hand is Rocky Graziano (The middle-weight boxing champ 1948-49) Also in the cast is Hugh Lawrence as Bowman's Police contact. The series ran for 38 episodes during 1961. This particular episode is the 14th of the production run.

Bowman is approached by sunken treasure hunter, Naura Hayden. Hayden, and her hired local Miami crew, Gene Damian and Adrienne Bourbeau have found some golden goblets off a sunken Spanish ship. They want Bowman to introduce them to an insurance appraiser. They want to sell the goblets but need them valued.

As it so happens, Bowman knows a man, George Neise, who is an appraiser of gold etc. The meeting is arranged and Neise and Hayden introduced. What Bowman does not know is that Neise and Hayden already know each other. They are planning on pawning off some fakes for sale. Neise will verify the goblets as real and drive up the price.

Bowman figures there are rats loose in the house, when he happens to catch Neise and Hayden doing a spot of couch wrestling. Bowman pays a visit to the two locals, Gene Damian and Adrienne Bourbeau. Bowman has known the pair for several years and sometimes rents their boat for fishing. The two admit the whole thing is a scam. They were paid $2500 to go along with the scam. They needed the cash for boat repairs etc.

Bowman now pays a visit to Miss Hayden for a chat. He does not spill he knows about the scam. He just wants to gather some more evidence before getting the Police involved.

Neise and Hayden, now also smell a rat in the cheese cupboard. They realize that Bowman has tumbled to their swindle. Next thing you know a bomb is planted on Damian and Bourbeau's boat. It takes a last minute dash by Bowman to save the pair.

Needless to say the Police called and Neise and Hayden get a long vacation on the State's nickel.

Not a great episode by any means, but it does kill a half hour OK.
