***SPOILERS*** Stacy Keach as TV's New York City private eye Mike Hammer goes international in the show's debut in breaking up a Eastern European terrorist ring using the Gotham Precious Medal Exchange to secretly finance them. That all started when two elderly client of Hammers Mr.& Mrs. Becker claimed that the gold Exchange had screwed them out of their life's savings that they planned to use for a Caribbean pleasure cruse that winter. It's when the Becker's are later murdered that evening that Hammer realizes that the Exchange was somehow responsible for their deaths in them about to expose it.

It's dancer singer Claire who got the Becker's to invest in the Exchange who Hammer keys in on to find out what kind of business, besides investing peoples money, it's into. That lead to Broadway producer Harry Slerick who as it turns out that Claire works for in staring in some half dozen plays that he produced! Eevn though the plays were all flops they seemed to make money in foreign markets that was laundered by the Exchange to fund the overseas terrorist organization!

****SPOILERS**** Without police help, who were secretly on to Slerick, Hammer goes on his own to crack the case with Slerick later murdered in order to keep him quite and Hammer himself arrested for blowing their cover. The big surprise is that Hammer overlooked a very important clue in the case, a strange switch smoking act from right to left, by the killer that in the end almost ended up costing him his life! That's until he pulled the plug or switch and put the killer on ice, in the city morgue, by dumping him or her together with a studio flood light into an electrified water tank that ended up cooking him.

An okay start to the series.

After making a couple Mike Hammer movies with Stacy Keach in the lead, it was decided to try this as a TV series. "24 Karat Dead" is the first TV episode. I was surprised when I watched it, as I assumed the show would try to start strong, though I found the plot a bit silly...especially the identity of the killer.

When the story begins, a nice old couple, the Beckers, have come to see Mike. Apparently, they invested in gold with a company and they're having a heck of a time getting the company to pay them back. It seems more like a case for lawyers...until shortly after, the Beckers are murdered. And, it's not a simple shooting...someone used a high powered rifle and took each out with only one shot. Naturally, Hammer thinks the gold company is behind this...but he'll have to beat the crap out of a guy and boink a few women on his way to solving the case.

My biggest problem was the identity of the killer and the whole identical twins angle. It was pretty silly and made the episode more forgettable than one to encourage you to see more.
