Quotes
-
Michael Anthony : [At the front door] Are you Mrs. Clint Halloran? Martha Ellison Halloran?
Martha Halloran : Yes, I am.
Michael Anthony : My name is Michael Anthony. I have something of importance to tell you. May I come in?
Martha Halloran : Yes, of course.
[Anthony enters]
Martha Halloran : Won't you sit down?
Michael Anthony : Thank you.
[Sits and opens his briefcase]
Martha Halloran : Are you a friend of my husband?
Michael Anthony : No, but I have something for you.
[Displays check]
Michael Anthony : A cashier's check for $1,000,000.
Martha Halloran : [Staring at check] And it's made out to me - Martha Ellison Halloran. That's my name.
Michael Anthony : And it's yours to do with as you please.
Martha Halloran : But why would I get a million dollars?
Michael Anthony : I can't tell you that even if I knew. But the gentleman I represent has authorized me to turn over this check to you.
[Martha appears puzzled]
Michael Anthony : I assure you it's perfectly legitimate.
Martha Halloran : But who would give me a million dollars?
Michael Anthony : The donor insists on remaining anonymous.
Martha Halloran : Will they honor it here
[in Mexico]
Martha Halloran : ?
Michael Anthony : It's as good as money anyplace.
[Anthony has retrieved a document from his briefcase]
Michael Anthony : Now, if you will just sign this agreement, promising never to reveal to anyone, except your husband, the exact amount or the circumstances under which you received it...
Martha Halloran : All I have to do is keep it a secret and the money is mine?
Michael Anthony : [Anthony nods and offers pen] Will you sign on this line, please?
Martha Halloran : [Martha signs] Oh, Mr. Anthony, you have no idea with this means to me. My husband just left...
Michael Anthony : [Shocked] He's left you?
Martha Halloran : No, he didn't leave me - he just left. I better call the bank to see how much cash I can get - oh, I forgot, the phones are all out of order and he's almost out of gasoline. I better go down there.
[Rushes out, leaving Anthony behind]
