Quotes
-
Michael Anthony : [Cathy Burnett answers the front doorbell ring of Anthony] Mrs. Burnell?
[She nods]
Michael Anthony : I wonder if I might see your husband for a moment?
[Phillip appears]
Michael Anthony : Mr. Phillip Burnell?
Phillip Burnell : Yes.
Michael Anthony : Can I speak with you a moment? It's quite important.
Phillip Burnell : Certainly. Come in.
[Anthony enters]
Phillip Burnell : Sit down, please.
Michael Anthony : [Anthony opens his briefcase] I have a gift for you.
[Displays check to the Burnells]
Cathy Burnell : What's that? A discount coupon?
Phillip Burnell : [Accepts the check] What do I do with this, Mr. Anthony? Take it to the nearest grocery store and they'll give me two cans of peanut brittle at half off?
Michael Anthony : No, but if you take it to the bank, they'll give you $1,000,000.
[Getting a bit indignant]
Michael Anthony : It's a cashier's check. It's yours to do with as you wish. And the tax on it has already been paid.
Phillip Burnell : Now you go around ringing doorbells and giving out checks for $1,000,000?
Michael Anthony : That is an agreeable part of my job, yes.
[Retrieving document from his briefcase]
Michael Anthony : Now if you'll just agree to this one condition...
Phillip Burnell : And you just happened to come here and give us a check for $1,000,000?
Michael Anthony : You see, my employer, who must remain anonymous...
Phillip Burnell : What kind of firm do you work for?
Michael Anthony : It's not quite like that, Mr. Burnell.
[Getting flustered]
Michael Anthony : In fact, I can't explain it.
[Offers document]
Michael Anthony : If you will just sign this paper agreeing never to reveal the amount of the gift or the circumstances under which you received it...
Phillip Burnell : Yes, I'll sign the paper.
[Grabs document and reads aloud with Cathy, sitting beside him, also reading over his shoulder]
Phillip Burnell : 'I promise never to reveal the exact amount of this gift or the circumstances under which I received it. If I violate this pledge, any portion of the money still in my possession will be reclaimed by the donor's accredited agent.'
[Anthony offers a pen, which Burnell accepts. To Cathy]
Phillip Burnell : It couldn't be, could it?
Cathy Burnell : [to Phillip] It could be.
[Phillip signs the promise]
Michael Anthony : [Accepting the agreement and placing it into his briefcase] Thank you, Mr. and Mrs. Burnell. Good luck and good bye.
[Prepares to depart]
Phillip Burnell : Would like a cup of coffee. Can I drive you back to town?
Michael Anthony : No, thank you, I have a car.
[Departs]
