Carolyn Jones: Emily Short
Quotes
-
Emily Short : [Anthony meets Emily in an outer office at her place of employment] Mr. Anthony?
Michael Anthony : You are Miss Emily Short of 409 West 98th Street, formerly of Racine, Wisconsin?
Emily Short : Yes, you're right.
Michael Anthony : I think I have some pleasant news for you.
[Anthony opens his briefcase and retrieves a check]
Michael Anthony : This is a cashier's check for you.
[Hands her the check]
Emily Short : [At first smiling and pleased, then suspicious] This has gone pretty far for a rib, wouldn't you say? What's your name? Someone put you up to this.
Michael Anthony : [Extracting an agreement from his briefcase] Now if you'll just sign this document. It contains very few stipulations the donor insists on.
Emily Short : You're serious!
[Anthony nods]
Emily Short : But why me?
[Emily begins speaking loudly]
Emily Short : I mean, people just come up to you and say 'Here is a million dollars.'
Michael Anthony : Please, Miss Short. Keep your voice down.
[Emily complies]
Emily Short : Why would you give me a million dollars?
Michael Anthony : I'm not. I only work for the man who is. It's his hobby. He refuses to let his identity be divulged. You'll find the taxes have already been taken care of.
Emily Short : [Reading the agreement] Let's see, all I have to do is not reveal, except to husband or wife... Well, that's no problem - I have neither, husband or wife. And if I do tell, the bank can take it all back.
Michael Anthony : Will you sign this form?
[Emily signs and Anthony returns the pledge to his briefcase]
Michael Anthony : That about wraps it up, Miss Short. Thank you very much.
Emily Short : [Gazing at check] Thank you.
Michael Anthony : Best of luck, Miss Short.
[Anthony departs]
